Position Title: Mechanical (Applications) Engineer
Position Type: Full-time
Position Overview: Advanced Magnet Lab, Inc. (AML), a high-tech company located in Melbourne, FL, is seeking a mechanical engineer to lead and support the company with the development of magnet-based applications with an emphasis on electrical machines (electric motors and generators).
The position will be full-time with employment taking place in Melbourne, Florida. AML has developed a novel method for producing permanent magnets with various value propositions for electrical machines (motors) and other applications.
This individual should have experience with applications and product development with an emphasis on electrical machines. A strong interest in learning new processes and developing technologies into consistent and repeatable prototypes and products is necessary. An interest in being in and contributing to an entrepreneurial and fast-paced learning environment is critical to success of candidate.
By example, responsibilities may include, not are not limited to:
- Work within a multi-disciplinary team of scientists, engineers, and technicians to support both manufacturing and research and development efforts.
- Lead the engineering team with the development of customer and internal prototyping of electrical machine concepts through demonstrations.
- Support product manufacturing including processes, production. manufacturing automation and qualification.
- Support business development activities including engaging with new customer products / applications.

Qualifications:
- The ideal candidate will have a variety of both manufacturing and research and development experience in a fast-pace environment.
- Science or engineering background in relevant field, i.e. BS, MS in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or related field.
- Minimum of 5 year’s experience in applications development with permanent magnets, i.e. electrical machine (electrical motor) related development or manufacturing.
- In-depth knowledge of electrical machines including electromagnetic, thermal as well as mechanical technology aspects.
- Experience in a wide variety of electrical machine topologies.
- Expertise in simulation tools such as 3D CAD including parametric modeling, Finite Element Analysis (FEA), and others.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
- A willingness to help in other areas such as manufacturing tooling and automation development.
- Must be a United States citizen.

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with proven ability to clearly communicate with engineering, technical support, sales, and management.

Position Title: Magnet R&D Engineer
Position Type: Full-time
Position Overview: Advanced Magnet Lab, Inc. (AML), a high-tech company located in Melbourne, FL, is seeking a Magnet R&D Engineer to support the company with research and processes development with its proprietary permanent magnet technology platform, PM-Wire™.
PM-Wire™ is an innovative and breakthrough approach for the design, manufacturing and application of permanent magnets. As a result, here-to-fore unachievable types of permanent magnets, magnet materials advanced the state-of-the-art in electrical machines (motors and generators) and other applications breaking China’s stronghold on permanent magnet industry.
The position will be full-time with employment taking place in Melbourne, Florida. As a Magnet R&D Engineer, this individual will be involved in all aspects of optimizing the PM-Wire™ manufacturing process for a variety of magnetic materials including rare earth, lean-rare earth and non-rare earth.
Manufacturing processes include proprietary tooling and factory automation. Individual will work closely with the company’s science and electrical machine development team for optimizing the performance and qualify of the magnets and the customer’s end-use product. Primary applications are electrical machines.
This individual should have a strong understanding of magnet materials, magnet manufacturing and magnet qualification. Ideally, the individual should have a base understanding of electrical machines including design, manufacturing, testing and end-use applications.
Overall, this individual should have a very strong and self-motivated interest in learning new processes and developing technologies into consistent and repeatable prototypes and products is necessary. - Support transition from manual processes and prototyping environment to product manufacturing including processes, production. manufacturing robotics / automation and qualification.
- Collaborate with applications analysis and design team with various magnet-based product concepts.
- Support business development activities including engaging with new customer products / applications.

Position Type: Part-time (with potential for full-time)
Position Overview: Advanced Magnet Lab, Inc. (AML), a high-tech company located in Melbourne, FL, is seeking a mechanical engineering technician to support the science and engineering team with the development of processes and products.
The position will start as part-time and could evolve into full-time with supporting other areas of the business. AML has two principal business units: (1) the development and manufacturing of permanent magnets for motors, and generators, and (2) superconducting systems, including low-temperature and high-temperature electro-magnets, superconducting bearings, and superconducting motors and generators.
This individual should be highly skilled mechanically with a strong interest in learning new processes and developing technologies into consistent and repeatable prototypes and products. An interest in being in and contributing to an entrepreneurial and fast-paced learning environment is critical to success of candidate.
Compensation: $25 - $40 (hourly - part-time; full-time – salary plus benefits) depending on level of experience.
Location: 1604 S Harbor City Blvd Melbourne, FL 32901 (work may take place at second location in West Melbourne, FL from time to time – 10 minutes from address above).
Qualifications:
- The ideal candidate will have a variety of both manufacturing and research and development experience in a faster-pace environment.
- Associates degree or postsecondary certificate in related discipline required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- 5 + years’ of related experience required.
- Thorough understanding of products and equipment used in manufacturing.
- Knowledge of manual machining practices preferred.

Responsibilities:
- Work within a multi-disciplinary team of scientists, engineers, and technicians to support both manufacturing and research and development efforts.
- Ensure quality and consistency in production processes by assessing, modifying, and/or calibrating equipment, including data collection and analysis. Candidate would work with science and engineering team to support analysis work.
- Identifies, troubleshoots, and resolves issues with equipment, devices, or products; uses precision instruments such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges to make adjustments.
- Gathers and arranges materials.
- Assists engineers with tasks related to development, construction, and evaluation of prototypes, new products, operations, and/or procedures.
- Drafts and maintains production logs, inventories, documentation, and reports including those outlining procedures, batch records, inventory, productivity, changeover, and progress.
- Ensures compliance with health and safety laws, regulations, and best practices.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Position Title: Test technician
Position Type: Part-time (with potential for full-time)
Position Overview: Advanced Magnet Lab, Inc. (AML), a high-tech company located in Melbourne, FL, is seeking a test technician to support the science and engineering team for testing of superconducting magnets. The position will start as part-time and could evolve into full-time with supporting other areas of the business. AML has two principal business units: (1) the development and manufacturing of permanent magnets for motors, and generators, and (2) superconducting systems, including low-temperature and high-temperature electro-magnets, superconducting bearings, and superconducting motors and generators.
Compensation: $20 - $35 (hourly - part-time; full-time – salary plus benefits) depending on level of experience.
Location: 1604 S Harbor City Blvd Melbourne, FL 32901 (second facility located in West Melbourne where applicant would be working – 10 minutes from address above).
Qualifications:
- The ideal candidate will have a variety of lab experience and/or manufacturing experience that will support testing efforts with AML’s superconducting magnet program.
- High school diploma/equivalency certificate or higher.
- Must be a United States citizen.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience with lab equipment in a quality and/or manufacturing environment.
- Commitment to safety and quality.
- Basic understanding of electrical circuits, including soldering and other areas of handling power electronics.
- Ability to take directions from leadership and work independently.
- Desire to work and contribute in a face-paced and entrepreneurial environment.
Responsibilities:
- Work within a multi-disciplinary team of scientists, engineers, and technicians to develop and qualify new manufacturing techniques and testing processes.
- Manage and document data related to one or more testing processes to support manufacturing and also for research and development needs.
- Ability to follow standard procedures to perform standardized work.
- Assist with electronic components, including setup, wiring, connections, and configuration, as needed.
- Use various mechanical and precision calibrated tools such as micrometers, calipers, multimeters, and other data analysis equipment.
- Read and interpret data from software programs with an ability to adjust testing parameters accordingly with assistance and under supervision of lead scientist.
